In her book, Janne Schuijn puts the blunt ax into vagueness and doom-mongering. She has a cheeky, down-to-earth, personal writing style. This ‘colloquial language’ will appeal to many, but some (sorry, me too) will get the jitters. Especially her tendency towards English terms (ownership, commitment, struggle) and interjections (holy shit, for the love of God, let’s face it, we’ve all been there…) should be a lot less as far as I’m concerned. In beautiful Dutch: ‘less is more’.

Oh yes, she addresses readers who are in danger of getting stuck in their stiff struggle for happiness: “What if it just sucks? Sometimes cunt is just cunt”. After all, finding your ultimate happiness is not magic (I almost wanted to say ‘well, but I held back in time!). It is mainly a matter of hard work.
